Today there are two state reserves in Belarus: Berezinsky biosphere and Polessky radiation-ecological ones.
The Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve is one of the oldest protected areas of the highest rank in our country.
Created on January 30, 1925 for the protection and breeding of rare species of animals and birds.
Today it is the only place where the “Big European Five” of large mammals - bison, bear, elk, wolf and lynx - live: only here you can see all of them at the same time.
Polesie State Radiation-Ecological Reserve was organized on July 18, 1988 on the territories of radioactive contamination zones as a result of the Chernobyl disaster.
It is a place for the rehabilitation of the natural territory, a platform for scientific research and is practically closed to tourists.
More than 700 employees are part of the reserve staff.
Of these, 40 scientists are involved in the implementation of a special scientific program.
